Usa-jingu Shrine is located in Usa City, Oita Prefecture.

 

 

Usa-jingu Shrine is the head shrine of more than 40,000 Hachiman shrines.
Emperor Ojin imported the culture and industry of the continent to create a new country, and in 725 he built a palace on the current site and founded Hachimanshin.

Usa was opened as early as Kinai region (the five capital provinces surrounding the ancient capitals of Nara and Kyoto) and Izumo, and according to Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan), “Hime-okami descended to Usashima.”

宇佐神宮は4万社あまりある八幡の総本宮。
応神天皇が大陸の文化と産業を輸入し、新しい国づくりをし、725年(神亀2年)、現在の地に御殿を造立し、八幡神を創建しました。
宇佐は畿内や出雲と同様に早くから開け、日本書紀に“比売大神が宇佐嶋にご降臨された”と記されています。
